_ Chileans of Perth _

[vc_row row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” text_align=”left” css_animation=””][vc_column][vc_column_text][dropcap]Chileans[/dropcap] are the second largest group of Latin Americans in Australia. On September 11, 1973 a military coup, lead by General Augusto Pinochet, overthrew the elected socialist president Salvador Allende. A dictatorship and a long period of political unrest followed. Many Chileans decided to flee the country, some to Perth, Western Australia.
